Spirulina!

For those of you who haven't heard, we have been given a generous donation of spirulina for our kitchen. This past summer, Earthrise granted us twelve pounds of spirulina for our Lammas gathering. Many people have added spirulina to their diet. I have found that spirulina has grounded my energy, if not added to it. Spirulina has lots of vitamin B-12, vitamin A, and one of the most complete complex of amino acids. In an active lifestyle, like many of those that I have seen pass through ZMS, these components help replace and rebuild qi (ch'i) in yourself. In a recent conversation with Karen Hernandez at Earthrise, she informed me of a doctor who is conducting a study surrounding 25 women with full blown AIDS and spirulina. The study is to monitor the replication of HIV and the other helpful benefits of spirulina use. This is exciting to me. She also informed me of an individual donation program she works on monthly. She is granted $100 in spirulina each month for distribution to individuals who ask for it! She did not mention any requirements for this donation. She also said that not many people have asked for it. She would love to distribute all of it! Please contact ZMS for more info.
Here are a few of the spirulina smoothies I use:
Maqui's Spirulina Melange
puree ingredients in blender and drink! (note: wash blender and glass immediately after use!
Peel the yellow rind off the lemon half and puree the lemon for 1 minute. Strain the pulp from the puree, add water/juice, psyllium, acidofolis, and spirulina, and blend. Drink mixture within a few minutes, as the psyllium will absorb moisture. This provides a scrubbing texture for your intestines and packs the B-12 in for maximum absorption. This drink can stop diarrhea and move constipation. Avoid using it with too much frequency, as the colon can get dependent on it. Ta-taa for now!
Love from the kitchen,
Maqui
