A Zuni Experience
by Heidi
When I began making plans for my first ever cross-country roadtrip, I knew I wanted to spend most of my time in the Southwest. Having heard of the Zuni Mountain Sanctuary through RFD, I e-mailed them to see if I might include a stay there. Happily, they agreed.
Two weeks from my initial departure and over 2,000 miles from my home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware I found myself cruising my Goldwing along New Mexico 53, Buffy's directions securely in place on the gas tank. I was enthralled by the glorious beauty of the Zuni Mountain area.
As I am wont to do, I got lost on a dirt road. Suddenly, from behind, came two angels riding in a pickup and they waved me to follow them. My angels were Maqui and Leopard, my first welcome to ZMS. After unpacking my gear and setting up camp I met the rest of ZMS's community of Stewards and visitors: Owl, Clay, Joseph, Arcturus, Buffy, Eden, Zunah, Raven, Durga, Ravel, Kaija, Zoom, Sonny and Donaldo. Over the next three days and nights I was welcomed into an amazing spiritual, yet profoundly relaxed and grounded world. A new pottery studio rising, a new kiln to be built, meals to prepare, dishes to wash, a weekly community meeting, errands to run -- and for my part: bodywork to share and Reiki to teach.
My offer of bodywork (I'm a massage therapist) was gladly accepted (and I don't recall a more appreciative group of receivers) -- and my Reiki I workshop a beautiful success (and I didn't even tell them they were my first group of initiates!).
It is now Wednesday morning, and I will be departing after breakfast to continue my adventure. There were many reasons I felt the need and desire to take a two month road-trip, but most importantly I felt the need for spiritual renewal, and, come what may, I found spirit aplenty at ZMS.
I am grateful and blessed for the experience.
